Your FaceBook Posts Might Affect Your VISA Application

Your FaceBook posts might affect your VISA application. Per the usual, your online activity is not only seen by your friends but by potential employers. The State Department will begin asking select VISA applicants for their social media usernames, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers for the last 5 years in an effort to satisfy President Trump’s process of ‘extreme vetting’. The change would affect applicants “who have been determined to warrant additional scrutiny in connection with terrorism or other national security-related visa ineligibilities,” which would supposedly apply to 65,000 applicants a year. We have yet to see how this protocol is interpreted; nonetheless, be wary of what you post to social media, whether or not you are an immigrant, your social personality could affect you in more ways than one.

How do you feel about this change to immigration policy?
